Psychopomp

The title Psychopomp comes from the Greek word meaning "guide of souls," and often refers to a creature, spirit, or deity that guides souls to the afterlife. Commonly we see psychopomps on funerary art and often depicted as various anthropomorphic creatures such as horses, dogs, and most frequently, birds. This can be seen most famously in American writer Edgar Allan Poe's 1845 narrative poem The Raven.
